Whatever genuinely increases your well-being: just do it, at least twice, three times to make sure. One of the most important findings I see in a range of research is that happiness is a verb. Love, courage, virtue, gratitude, friendship, marriage — despite their luminous labels — only come alive in action. ~ Denise Clegg

July 21st, 2010 by michaela

I have been using this principle of three all my life (in numerology I am a 3) and find it absolutely works for me. Whenever I trial a new modality, I will use it three times and if after that I’m happy with the results, I’ll either continue to use it or keep it for future reference. I liken it to a sporting term…3 strikes then you’re out! ;)

The luminous labels within the title of this post all need to be worked at and would agree that they only come alive once action has been taken to make it so. Love begets love, friendships and marriage require feeding and nurturing in return, gratitude begets gratitude, virture requires work as does courage.

Your rate of investment in all these will bring to you a rate of return and from my experience, it’s an amazing, uplifting and wonderful rate of return.

Have fun :)

Decisions, decisions…to do or do not…

July 15th, 2010 by michaela

Making a decision you know will change your life can be challenging (eeeekkk do we really want change or do we like things just the way they are because it’s comfortable??). However once you do truly make that all important decision (whatever it is), it seems all the atoms in the Universe converge and kickstart your new journey. However, before you start making those all important decisions, think it through carefully first because any decision, even the decision to not do something, has a consequence - pour le meilleur ou pour le pire.

If you’ve just had a huge argument with someone at home, work or within your friendship circle you might decide to cut them out of your life immediately or something equally awful (unless of course your decision really does warrant such action).

Now these snap decisions don’t always work very well. Why? Because emotions will be clouding rational thought. I’m not a psychologist however I do know a little about human behaviour. Not only that I’ve seen such decisions being made in the heat of the moment; I’ve also observed the fall out from those choices.

So what’s the best plan of attack? Simply put, look at the issue from as many different perspectives as possible, and weigh up the pros and cons, losses and gains. Maybe do some brainstorming, create a map of what you come up with on paper, and allow your intuition to help you. If you have any niggling feelings, pay attention to what they’re trying to tell you because it may be that some pieces of the puzzle have yet to appear. Ask yourself where will your decision take you and notice how your future will be.  What will the benefits of that be because it might be even more beneficial to not do anything at all.

Also, if you MUST make a decision in a short timeframe, sleep on it first. The morning always looks so much brighter after a dark and stormy night wrestling with decisions!

At the end of the day whatever you choose to do or not, rests entirely on your shoulders (after all, you are the boss of you).  You must be comfortable with whatever you decide on so work through the decision-making process logically, thoroughly, and intuitively.

Oh, and it helps to also have a Plan B, C or D…just in case ;) AND…if you’re still finding the decision-making challenging, it might be a good time to get some coaching in…

Good luck :)

How to let your imagination run wild….interpret a vague text message

July 9th, 2010 by michaela

Text messaging can leave me scratching my head, particularly when I have to decipher those annoying abbreviations (yes I know, I’m very old fashioned but I’m getting better…). Don’t get me wrong, I love text messaging! It’s one of the greatest inventions of all time, and something I do more than I really should.

However when texting backwards and forwards starts to progressively become more abbreviated, the message begins to lose its meaning. It’s from this point onwards where assumptions can begin to get a life of their own and misunderstandings can occur, as has happened to me in the past.

If this has been your experience as well and you’d like to get the facts straight away, it’s best to pick up the phone and have that conversation. In my humble opinion, this will allow you to quickly confirm an appointment, make an appointment, find out what the sender REALLY means, or sort out any misunderstandings. Best of all you will know EXACTLY what is going on.

It’s so easy really and will save you a lot of time and effort  ;)

Do something once, and you’ll find it gets easier next time around

July 3rd, 2010 by michaela

Our brain is amazing at remembering things. I myself have often said I have the memory of an elephant. So I found it interesting to read an article in Science News (http://bit.ly/cqQkrE)  called How Brain Remembers Single Events, which states in part:

“In a study with rats, neuroscientist John Guzowski and colleagues found that a single brief experience was as effective at activating neurons and genes associated with memory as more repetitive activities.”

Now I know I’m not a rat, at least not since last time I looked, but I do know that when something is done for the first time it might not turn out exactly as expected. Of course with practice, refinement, and perseverance, you can quickly go from novice to expert in your field.

The past week I’ve had to learn how to install new website modules and read through a mountain of instruction manuals (okay so I’m exaggerating) which didn’t make a lot of sense to me. Thankfully I have past experience in working with and managing websites (a long time ago) and relied on memory as well as my intuition. After much stopping and starting I finally worked it all out and mission was successfully completed. Quite honestly, this little exercise (okay so it was HUGE for me) gave me an opportunity to learn more about the backend of my website so that next time I need to do something when my webmaster is away, it will be much easier.

Over the years I’ve heard some say that they couldn’t do this, or they couldn’t do that because: they’re not good enough; it’s out of their league; they’re too old to learn new things; and so the list goes on. Admittedly I’ve said some of those things in the past as well, but I’ve also put into practise this theory. This past week of new experiences and relying on some old memories is just one example. So if an opportunity presents itself to you to try something new, maybe a new job, further education, someone asks you out to a dance; or heaven forbid they ask you to do some guest speaking’ it might seem scary initially, but why not go for it? Imagine the possibilities that will come from that?

Now back to those ‘basic’ instruction manuals… I just wish they were ‘dumbed’ down enough to make it easy for me to understand… Maybe they are and it’s me!!! (Note to self: write with your target audience in mind)

Press Release!! Cold snap makes the news…

June 30th, 2010 by michaela

According to an article today by Amy Simmons on www.abc.net.au, called Cold Snap Set to Stay, people across south eastern Australia are complaining about the chilly weather. I must say that today I was one of those people, and I usually love the cold!.  This morning in Brisbane I was looking out my office window thinking I was back in Canberra on a cold winter’s day. Okay so I’m exaggerating a bit, but it was cold and drizzling this morning with more of the same predicted for the coming days (I just knew I shouldn’t have thrown away my long johns when I moved to Queensland!!).

So why does the weather we’re having now make the news when it (the weather) occurs every day and night? Simple, because it’s unusual, and people are affected by it.

Strangely this story got me thinking about press releases. Like the weather, your business does what it does, but what if one day something out of the ordinary was to change the daily routine which impacted upon your clients or potential clients? Depending on whether this is negative or positive, your press release might scream about a potential shortage, innovation, amazing benefits, rarity, etc etc… Remember even negatives have positive elements to it.

If you’re unsure how to write a press release, do a quick internet search and you’ll find LOTS of information out there. Tomorrow is the beginning of a new financial year and so it begins (more like keeps going…) anew. Will you be doing anything differently this year that will impact on your client base? If so maybe a press release will prove to be something of great value.

Have fun :)

Intuitive business consulting…what does this term mean?

June 28th, 2010 by michaela

According to the Australian Pocket Oxford Dictionary ‘intuitive’ is an adjective of, possessing or perceived by intuition (immediate insight or understanding without conscious reasoning). Business of course means your regular occupation or profession, and consulting is when we provide professional advice or guidance to our clients.

I have many years experience as an intuitive (I was actually born a psychic medium though not proactive in promoting this more), and also many years as a desk jockey, which happens to include military service.

Intuitive business consulting is part of my overall business structure (I’m also a certified NLP coach, writer and psychometrist/psychic/medium). Simply put, I walk in both worlds - the business world and the alternative, and believe this to be the perfect blend in providing help to my clients, hence my title.

When I’m consulting I tap into what I call the higher mind or energy; mine and theirs, and I intuit possible outcomes, potentials, and other possibilities. Before I go on I must mention possible outcomes here. As you’re probably aware, we have free will and choice so if there’s something you disagree with and do another way, or you decide to totally change course altogether, that’s great! Now there would be a high probability that things  turn out differently. It’s a bit like feedback, take what you serves you best right now and plan the rest around it.

My aim is empower the client so the sessions are proactive, I provide the knowledge of what is possible, check if current strategies need adjusting, etc, and open doors for them.

In a nutshell, what I do is I open doors. I open doors to potentials and possibilities.

I think I’ve covered the main points and if you’d like more information, please send me an email using the Contact Us form at the bottom of the webpage.

Wishing you an abundance of all that’s good and wonderful :)

Assumption Check - not everything is as it seems

June 25th, 2010 by michaela

Yesterday was an amazing day, one which has gone down in Australia’s history. By 12pm the then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd had stood down and a new Prime Minister was sworn in, a female one at that - Julia Gillard. Yep, a pretty amazing kind of day…

Whilst these events were unfolding on my television set and work was put on the backburner, I noticed a car pull over and park outside my house (my lounge room windows face the front yard).  The male driver remained in the car whilst a small and frail looking elderly lady with a cane opened the passenger door to get in. As she tried to get into the car she somehow tripped and fell backwards onto the grassed side of the footpath. She repeatedly tried to get back up but couldn’t. Meanwhile the male occupant of the car ‘appeared’ disinterested and remained sitting in the car. How annoying!

In my lounge room I was watching political history in the making, whilst outside an elderly lady couldn’t get up! When I finally realised the gentleman wasn’t going to get out of his car, I stormed outside (very annoyed at his lack of apparent compassion) and asked her if she needed assistance (she did). As I helped her up I glared at the man and said, “You know, you could actually get out and help this poor lady back up!” He replied with, “I would if I could but I’m disabled.” The little old lady replied with, “Yes he would if he could but he can’t.”

I had just told someone off who had very limited mobility, and who presumably was perfectly capable of lending a helping hand. I was absolutely mortified! I gave  them both a heartfelt apology which they thankfully accepted. I then put on her seatbelt, and off they drove.

It’s not often I assume anything because I know things are not always as they seem, especially in my line of work. However, on this day I did. Clearly I wasn’t thinking as I should have! In a way however, I’m glad because now it’s there, etched into my conscious awareness forever.

This incident has been a timely reminder for me to REMEMBER TO NEVER ASSUME anything until you get all the facts. Some things really are not what they seem.

I wanted to share this story with you as a gentle reminder to make no assumption until all the facts are revealed. And remember, not all is as it seems.

Word for the day…Congruency…do you have congruency in regards to setting your goals?

June 23rd, 2010 by michaela

I woke to the news this morning that we here in Australia were about to present to the world a new prime minister. And we did! Julia Gillard is the first woman to take over the reins of the highest job in our land. Admittedly she wasn’t elected by the people (the next election will tell what the people really think), and politics has been her chosen career for quite some time.

I’m not a political animal by any stretch of the imagination. I’m more the kind who if you do a great job, I’ll most probably vote for you.  The point I want to  make is that anyone can achieve their heart’s desire if they have congruency, and gender doesn’t have any bearing on it. That is, if all parts of  your Being is in agreement and harmonious (values, beliefs etc), AND you can communicate and connect with those around you, then watch out world, because nothing can stop you from achieving your goal.

When my own life starts moving away from what I initially set out to do, it takes me a little while before I notice I’m off track. I then reassess where I am and adjust my course accordingly, and then I’m off once again.

Are you living with congruency? Are your values and beliefs aligned? Are you connecting and communicating with others?

If your answer is no to any of the above, what do you suspect gets in the way?

Make today the day you plot or readjust your course; it may require the slightest rudder adjustment before you are once again on course.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Meditation is a great business tool and won’t affect your budget :)

June 22nd, 2010 by michaela

That’s right, meditation is a great business tool - and it doesn’t cost anything except maybe 20 minutes out of your day. This 20 minutes equates to an estimated three extra hours worth of sleep, so you’re way in front from the start!

There has been so much research conducted over the years in regards to the benefits of meditation - just check out the internet - millions of pages!

Some benefits of meditation are:

  • peace of mind
  • has a soothing effect
  • strengthens the immune system
  • supports restful sleep
  • brings about the Mind, body and spirit
  • promotes the healing of body, mind and spirit
  • provides you with greater clarity of mind
  • and more…

According to Psychology Today, an article written by Colin Allen, The Benefits of Meditation, 1 April 2003, neuroscientists discovered we (those of us who meditate) shift brain activity from one area of the brain to another. Simply put we shift our stressful thoughts from the right frontal cortex to the more calm, left frontal cortex. This shift means that negative effects of stress, mild depression and anxiety are reduced and we become calmer and happier… Pretty cool hey?

Because we become calmer, have greater clarity and a better overall feeling of wellbeing, I highly recommend using some form of meditation as part of your business toolkit.

I do try to meditate every day but there are days when for whatever reason, it simply doesn’t happen. When I don’t, during the course of my day my head will fill with lots of unnecessary ’stuff’. I notice my stress levels rise, clarity isn’t what it could be, and it creates a veil over my intuition. Decision-making also takes a nose-dive so it is in my very best interest to meditate every day BEFORE I begin my workday.

When I’m working with my business clients I will ALWAYS, without fail, meditate because I need to be ‘ON’. I become more focused, centred, clear, and alert. That is the power of meditation.

There are many different meditation techniques. Take breathing for example; you do this already unconsciously -), just imagine if you were to use breathing as a purposeful meditation - breathing in clarity, vibrancy, calm….breathing out negativity, confusion, stress…

Meditation as a business tool is on the increase and finding its way to boardrooms across the globe. If it’s something you haven’t considered before, now might be a good time to start doing something new to increase productivity, calm and great overall health and wellbeing for you (and your employees if you have any).

Good luck with your new business tool :)

A cohesive team is a winning team

June 13th, 2010 by michaela

I feel rather sorry for the Socceroos at the moment. I imagine they’re disappointed in losing their match (4 - 0 is a big loss) in the opening game with Germany. Now I usually don’t follow soccer (or any other form of football) but I do know that the German team is quite powerful. The Socceroos might also be feeling they’ve let down their fans, country, and also themselves. Hearing or reading comments from disappointed fans wouldn’t help their cause at all (I heard some on the morning news).

They now have six days to get their act together, physically and mentally. I sincerely hope they can refocus, disallow negative comments (apart from improving tactics etc) to undermine them psychologically (GO SOCCEROOS!).

Any workplace can be like a soccer match too. Contracts are lost to competing clients or companies because the other team negotiated better, had more experience, knew how to play politics, and so on. Disappointment comes from any loss and can ripple throughout the workplace - I’ve seen this happen myself. Once a deal has been lost, to gain ground in the next round, it’s in the losing team’s interest to reassess where they went wrong, immediately afterwards.

In my humble opinion, it’s pointless blaming the other team for anything (ie they played dirty, they were fitter, more educated, more everything, etc), it’s far more useful to look at the losing team’s strategy. Where, when, and how could they improve, what did they lack, or were the team players in the wrong position at the wrong time? Energetically speaking, were their heart’s in it, was their energy scattered, or are they part of a cohesive team who want the same thing - to win?

Once the assessment has been done, it’s time to move forward again with determination, focus, a much lighter and brighter heart, and become THE winning team!

Good luck with your next match Socceroos - you can do it!!
